Agra, the city of the famous Taj Mahal.

 

 

 Agra, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, has a population of 1,119,000. In the 16th and 17th century it was the Mughal Empire’s capital. Today it is mostly known for that magnificent memorial, the Taj Mahal. Other things to see in Agra are the Fort, Diwan-I-Am, Diwan-I-Khas, Jahangir’s Palace, Khas Mahal.

You can easily visit Agra on your own, but there are also many guided tours to th city. These tours usually depart from Delhi and include a visit to the Taj Mahal, the Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. At around 6 pm these tours return to Delhi, often on the Taj Express.

Agra has a variety of hotels and other accommodations. For instance, south of the Taj Mahal is the Taj Ganj Area, which has many hotels. Other accommodation areas are  south of Taj Ganj and Sadeer area. The city has many restaurants, shops and old bazaars. Don’t forget to buy some marble items with stone inlay work.
