Ancient civilizations of India
A glance at the ancient civilizations of India.
Some facts about the ancient civilizations of India: The first major civilization flourished around 2500 BC in the Indus River valley, and is known as the Harappan culture. They developed trading networks, planned gridded cities, advanced the arts and laid the foundations of the religions that predominate today. Around 1500 BC, the Aryans rose to power, introduced the caste system and created the Vedas. From 321 BC, other ancient civilizations of India came to power. The Mauryan Empire (321 BC) and the Gupta Empire (321 AD) were ancient civilizations of India that were mainly Buddhist, but the Gupta Empire is also responsible for spreading out Hinduism throughout Central India. At the beginning of the sixth century, the invasion of the Huns signalled the end of this era of history.
The Chola Empire (800AD) introduced Hinduism to other parts of India and
left some remarkable monuments at Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. The
Vijayanagar Empire (1336 AD) and the Mughal Empire (1526 AD) were the
two latest ancient civilizations of India before the European powers
flocked to India and established their trading posts.
