Chennai 

 

Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu.

 

 

 Chennai is now the official name for Madras. It is the capital of Tamil Nadu and has a population of 5.9 million. Most people there speak Tamil, which is one of the main southern languages. Chennai is considered one of the important centres of Dravidian culture. This is the most authentic culture of India.

Chennai is where the East India company established the first British settlement in 1639, which later became Fort St George. The city consists of two main parts: George Town and the part south of Periyar EVR High Road. Egmore and Central are two important train stations of the city. At Rajaji Salai and Anna Salai  are post offices.

Some tourist attractions of Chennai are: the Enfield motorcycle factory, Fort St George, the High Court Building, the Marina and Aquarium, the Government Museum, Kapaleeshwarar temple, San Thome Cathedral, Saint Andrew’s Church and Guindy National Park. Kanchipuram and Mamallapuram ( Mahaballipuram) can easily be visited by organised tour. The city has a variety of restaurants and hotels.
