Goa

Goa is one of the smallest states of India.

With an area of 3659 sq km and a population of only 1.3 million Goa is one of  the smallest states of India. In 1510 the city was conquered by Portuguese Alfonso de Albuquerque and thus became Portugal’s first territory in Asia. The Portuguese remained in Goa for more than 450 years. In 1987 it became one of the states of the India Union.

Goa has, since the 1960s, attracted many tourists. It has some of the finest beaches of Asia and, with its unique culture, it has a lot to offer to foreign visitors. Some of the main attractions are: Idalcao Palace, the Church of Immaculate Conception, St Thome quarter, San Sebastian chapel, the State Museum, etc.

Accommodations can be found at Benaulim, Calangute, Colva, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator and Chapra. Goa is easily accessible by plane, bus, car and train. The Dabolim airport is at 29 km from Panaji. The city has good train connections with Mumbai and Mangalore. You can rent cars, motorcycles or bicycles or simply take a bus or a taxi.
