History of Ancient India
The history of ancient India started long before 2500 BC.
The history of ancient India started more than 4500 years ago. Remains of the city civilizations of Mohenjodaro and Harappa show that the Indus River Valley was densely populated. With the history of ancient India also begins the evolution of Hinduism, the nation’s most important religion. Gods like Siva and Kali have their origin in that period. With the invasions of the Aryans another important period in the history of ancient India began. The Aryans pushed south the Dravidians, who were the original peoples of the subcontinent. Aryan culture still influences strongly northern Indian culture of today. Around 500 BC Gautama the Buddha started his spiritual movement, which today still has great influence in Asia and increasingly beyond. In 321 BC, Chandrugupta Maurya established a powerful empire. The history of ancient India is not complete without mentioning Emperor Ashoka. In fact, to many Indians he is the greatest figure in it. In 319 AD the Gupta Empire was established. In that period a number of dynasties ruled in the south: Cholas, Pandyas, Cheras, Chalukyas and Paldavas are some of the most important;
