India  Climate

A glance at the India climate.

The India climate is much different in the north of the country than in the south, but generally it can be divided in three seasons: the hot, the wet and the cool. Around February, the heat starts to build up on the northern plains and by April, May, it becomes unbearable. At that time, the plains are dry and dusty while in Ladakh the snow on the passes starts to melt. So you see the India climate is very varied.

In June the monsoon arrives in the extreme south and sweeps north to cover the whole country by early July. The rain doesn’t really cool things off. The hot and dry India climate is simply traded for hot and humid conditions. Although people are happy and relieved when the monsoon comes, it also brings destructive floods and a lot of people are made homeless every year.

Around October most people visit India because the monsoon ends and the hot and the wet seasons are over. Only Ladakh and Zanskar should be visited more early, because of the cold. In the far south, the India climate never gets cool, but the temperatures are comfortably warm rather than hot from October until February.
