Political India facts: India is a constitutional democracy with 29 states and six union territories. The parliament is divided in the Lower House or the house of the people and the Upper House or the council of states. The Lower House has 545 members and the Upper House has 245 members. The largest minority is Islam, practiced by approximately 12% of the Indians. Religion is very important in India and seeps into every facet of Indian life.

remains widespread and despite India’s many large cities, the nation is
still overwhelmingly rural. About two-thirds of the Indian children are
enrolled in school, but at least 33 million children aren’t enrolled at
all.
