India Flag
Symbolism of th India flag.
The India flag is a horizontal tricolor of deep saffron (Kesari) on the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportions. The saffron symbolizes courage, sacrifice and the spirit of renunciation; the white stand for purity and truth; the green symbolizes faith and fertility. The width is two third of the length of the India flag. In the centre of the white band, you see the wheel of law in the Sarnath Lion Capital. This wheel on the India flag is in navy blue to indicate the Dharma Chakra, a Buddhist symbol dating back to the 200th century. This Chakra has 24 spokes which means that there is life in movement and death in stagnation.
The design of the India flag was adopted by India’s constituent assembly
on the 22nd of July 1947 and it’s use and display are
regulated by a code. The late Prime Minister Pandit Nehru said this flag
symbolized freedom, not only for ourselves, but freedom for all people.
