About the India government.

The India government is part of a parliamentary democracy. It consists of two houses: the Lower House, or House of the People (Lok Sabha) and the Upper House, the Council of States (Rajya Sabha). Every 5 years elections are held for the 544 member of the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha has 245 members. The India government has a prime minister.

Apart from the national India government there is a government in every state of the country The India president (who has little power) is elected by these state governments, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The real power, though, is with the prime minister.

The central India government has, in the pas governed directly a number of states. This was because of a variety of political problems. The nation has a large number of peoples, religions and cultures within its borders. From time to time conflicts arise between some of these groups. This great nation, however, has remained the world’s largest democracy, despite of its problems!
