India  Money

India money is called the Rupee.

It’s not possible to purchase India money before you leave, but if you want cash when you arrive, you can get it at the Indian airport bank. Once you have India money with you, it’s safest to keep it next to your skin in a moneybelt or in a pouch under your clothing. Never carry money in a shoulder bag or in your luggage.

India money is called rupee (Rs) and is divided into 100 paise. There are notes of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 rupees and coins of 5, 10, 20, 25 and 50 paise and 1, 2 and 5 rupees. If you want to know today’s exchange rates it’s best to ask at a bank.

Sometimes it’s difficult to use torn or very worn notes of India money, so always check notes when you are given them, and refuse the ones that are damaged. Try to have enough money for daily requirements, and it’s always better to have a good supply of small denomination notes than some 500 rupees notes, because these are difficult to change outside the big cities.
