India Visa
Most people need an India visa.
Most people who go to India need a visa. In general, however, it is relatively easy to obtain an India visa. There are a few types. Tourist visas, for example, are issued for six months. They are valid from the date of issue. So, if you have one issued on January 1 and you enter the country on May 1 (of that same year) you will be able to stay for two months only. Only a six month India tourist visa is extendable. This extension, however is not a routine matter. So, if you have been in the country for a full six months, it will be very hard to get even a short extension of two weeks. Applications must be made at the Foreigners’ Registration Offices. The only realistic way to get an extension is to travel to a neighbouring country (not Nepal!) and apply for a new India visa for six months. Students and business people can sometimes get one year visas. Validity conditions can (and do) change from time to time, so check with the Indian Embassy in your country.
