India

India is probably the most exotic country in the world.

India has 25 states and seven union territories. Its capital, Delhi,  is on of these territories. The total area of India is 3,287,263 sq km. It has a population of about one billion. This great and gigantic country is bordered by Pakistan (in the west), by Tibet, China, Nepal and Bhutan in the north, by Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh in the east. West, south and east it is bordered by the Indian Ocean.

India still is mostly rural, but has a number of very large cities: Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Chennai (Madras), Calcutta. There are 18 officially recognized languages, but there are hundreds more minor languages and dialects. In the north Hindi is widely spoken and/or understood. In the south some of the major languages are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam ( in Kerala). English, though, has remained a very important language all over the country.

India has a varied geography, great climate, wonderful music and dance, delicious food, a friendly population, a huge movie industry (in Bombay) and a terrible traffic. To many people it is the most fascinating country on this planet. Who doesn't know the Taj Mahal, Yoga, Ravi Shankar, Mahatma Gandhi?
