When you look at the map of India  you’ll see that it is bordered in the north by the Himalayas, China, Tibet, Nepal  and Bhutan. The Himalayas are the highest mountains on this planet.  The highest mountain of the country is the Kanchenjunga (8595 m). You’ll also notice on the map of India that the most important river in the north is the Ganges (Ganga), which also plays a role in the country’s religions and cultures.

The north east of the country borders Myanmar and Bangladesh. The map of India also shows that, south of the northern plains is the Deccan Plateau. The major rivers of the south are the Krishna and the Godaveri. In the West the country is bordered by Pakistan. South is Sri Lanka, the island situated in the India Ocean.

Some of the important cities, shown on the map of India, are: Delhi ( the capital), Lucknow, Patna, Varanasi (Benares), Jaipur, Kanpur, Gaya, Jaisalmer, Agra, Calcutta, Nagpur, Mumbai (Bombay), Bhubaneshwar, Aurangabad, Panaji, Warangal, Bangalore, Mangalore, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Chennai (Madras), Goa, Pondicherry, Coimbatore. The country is gigantic and you’ll need a lot of time to visit entirely.
